PM Calls on All Political Parties to Help Flood Victims

KANDAL: While completing his voter registration in Takhmao city, Kandal province on Thursday morning, 20 October, Prime Minister Hun Sen made an appeal to other political parties, asking them to distribute donations and food to citizens who have been badly affected by the floods.

"People are suffering, so how can I let the people suffer and stay quiet," said the Prime Minister. "Some senior officials are traveling around the country to distribute rice seeds and food to the people who are in trouble, so [other] political parties can also do this, if it is possible to help two or three families, they [should try to] help as much as they can, but if they don't do anything, it is still the responsibility of the Royal Government."

The Prime Minister stressed that anyone can pitch in to help citizens who have been affected by the floods, not only the government or monks. He encourages all those who can afford to do so to help ease the burden of flood victims.

Prime Minister Hun Sen shared that he plans to visit and distribute donations to flood victims in Battambang, Pursat, Banteay Meanchey and Siem Reap provinces over the next few days, to help alleviate the suffering of the affected people. He stressed that he is not doing this as an opportunity to promote his election campaign.

"I do not care about which party, I care about the people, and I do not ask which party people belong to, I just distribute rice seeds and food," he said. "You should be grateful to me, because among the people I share [these donations to], there are definitely people who vote for other parties."
